Our most economical LANC unit offers superior zoom control. With its wide-sweep zoom rocker, the VZ-RL100 allows the operator to remotely control zoom with the smooth and precise action needed for high-quality footage. Also includes a record button and LED indicator light. Compatible with camcorders that have a LANC-capable 2.5mm remote port – includes many Sony, Canon, and JVC camcorders, Black Magic w/ powered zoom lens, and Panasonic AG-CX10, HC-X2000, HC-X1500, AG-CX350, & AU-EVA1.
Zoom Control – The RL100 Lanc lens camera zoom control offers a smooth wide-sweep rocker for excellent control over variable-speed zoom on any camera equipped with a LANC Remote port. The ability to zoom from the tripod handle improves the operator’s ability to seamlessly and smoothly capture images, and the RL100 offers reliable, precise control for a great price. The RL100 also features a record button and LED indicator light that glows when your camera is in record mode and flashes when your battery is low. It fits on just about any tripod handle, shoulder rig, or jib and it can be extended with our 10, 20, 50 or 100 foot cables.

Does this work with any of the canon consumer video cameras like the VIXIA HF R700? I know it has a port but I’m not sure it is capable of taking zoom controls through it

The G9 does not appear to have to necessary port for our zoom controls. The 2.5mm port on the G9 seems to be only for shutter release in still mode – DMW-RSL1 is the shutter release model.

Unfortunately it will not work, as the HC-VX981K does not have the necessary remote port. I don’t believe there is a remote zoom control available for this camera.

I did some web hunting and I couldn’t really find any useful info. Even in the user manual it doesn’t tell you much. By any chance does your camera have a LANC port to test the controller? Also, when you plug it into the Atomos unit, does the LED light blink or do anything?

Yes, the VZRL100 is compatible with the AG-CX350. For best performance, it is recommended to make sure the CX350 firmware is up to date.

The on board pressure switch on the Sony HXR NX5’s lens is smooth but difficult to “feel” the start point when trying to slow-zoom. The VariZoom is much easier to detect the start or activation point of which the zoom begins allowing for a very smooth, dampened start to each zoom at any speed. And having the control on the handle of the tripod seems to be more natural than reaching to the far side of the camera for the on board control.
